Ambulatory Student and Shadowing Programs

Shadowing Program

Observational job shadowing experiences are now available for students in our communities who are considering health care career opportunities. These shadowing experiences are for those who are 16 years and older. The duration is no more than 150 hours, and it does not involve direct patient care. This program is available to individuals who are not part of a formal educational or training program.

These experiences will be available at medical offices across the Central Valley Area. Areas excluded from the program at this time are: Operating Rooms, Labor and Delivery, and hospital units. 

Requirements for Shadowing Program

Each applicant must meet the following requirements to be eligible to participate in this program:

  • Meet the age requirement of 16 years and older. If a minor, adult guardian will be required to sign documents in application packet.
  • Complete the initial health screening requirements and provide documents as part of the application.

Application Period

Open the 1st through 10th of every month, with a tentative start date of the 1st week of the following month.

Student Program Overview

Kaiser Permanente offers placement assistance for students in the community to be placed at one of our 8 outpatient medical offices in the Central Valley Area.

This program is available to all types of students except medical students and medical residents. All incoming students must be represented by an affiliated school and program which has been approved and has a signed contract on file with Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California Regional Offices.

We accept both groups and Individual students to the program.

Requests for student placement must be submitted 6 to 8 weeks prior to desired start date.

Group Applications

The Group Application student period is twice per year. The time periods are:
