Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a cash and medical assistance program administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA).

Monthly cash benefits are paid to people with limited income and resources who are disabled, blind, or age 65 or older. Blind or disabled children, as well as adults, can get SSI benefits. The health insurance program known as Medicaid (Medi-Cal in California) is also a part of the benefit package.
