What is urgent care?

An urgent care need is not an emergency medical condition but does require prompt attention, usually within 24 to 48 hours. Not sure if your condition qualifies? Here are some examples of where to get different conditions treated.

Consider Urgent Care for:

  • Minor wounds or cuts
  • Minor injuries like bites, sprains, strains, backaches, or acute back pain
  • Frequent urination or burning sensation when urinating
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs) or sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing
  • Acute sore throat, severe cough, or upper respiratory symptoms
  • High fever
  • Mild breathing issues
  • Earaches

Book a primary care appointment for:

  • Routine physical exams
  • Pap tests or cervical cancer screenings
  • Follow-up exams
  • Management of ongoing medical conditions, like diabetes or hypertension
  • Chronic joint pain or lasting symptoms from older injuries
  • Chronic cough lasting longer than 2 weeks

Call 911 or go to the emergency room for:

  • Severe, persistent bleeding
  • Severe shortness of breath or chest pain
  • Major broken bones or head injuries
  • Sudden decrease in or loss of consciousness
  • Sudden, severe abdominal pain
  • Slurred speech, or sudden inability to talk or move one side of the body
  • Active labor when there isn’t time for a safe transfer to a designated hospital before delivery
