The same doctors who care for the Sacramento Kings will care for you at our new Sports Medicine Center located in Golden 1 Center. With a focus on early intervention, our highly trained specialists provide comprehensive sports care for athletes of any age.

Treatment methods & specialties

Our highly trained specialists at the new 18,000-square-foot Sports Medicine Center and our Elk Grove Sports Medicine facility diagnose and treat injuries related to sports or recreational activities.

 

At its core, sports medicine focuses on members who are actively engaged in exercise, vigorous physical activity, and competitive sports who sustain acute and chronic musculoskeletal injury. This specialty is for those who are passionate about fitness, and desire excellent, holistic care in relation to any injury or issue that interferes with their ability to exercise, train, and compete.

Kaiser Permanente’s Endurance Lab

The Kaiser Permanente Endurance Lab offers members and non-members the opportunity to reach their fitness goals using advanced physiological testing and biomechanical assessments. Directed by Julie Young, a former elite athlete, the Endurance Lab uses state-of-the-art equipment and science-based programs to help produce winning results. Whether you are training for your next triathlon, aspire to be a professional athlete, or are a recreational fitness enthusiast, our program is for you.2

Our physicians

Our team includes fellowship-trained Sports Medicine Physicians and Orthopedic Surgeons, a Neuropsychologist, Physical Therapists, Certified Athletic Trainers, and a Radiology Technologist. Every athlete deserves professional care. That’s why the same doctors who have served as the team physicians for the Sacramento Kings since 2013 will provide high quality sports medicine care just steps away from where the pros practice and compete.

    Jason Brayley, MD

    Co-Director, Kaiser Permanente Sports Medicine Center

     

    Jason Brayley, MD, earned his medical degree from Loma Linda University and completed his fellowship in sports medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He has served as a team physician for multiple high school and collegiate teams, including seven years as a team physician in professional cycling. He is board-certified in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine. Dr. Brayley is a team physician for the Sacramento Kings.

  • Doctor Joy

    Susan Joy, MD

    Co-Director, Kaiser Permanente Sports Medicine Center

     

    Susan Joy, MD, attended the University of Connecticut School of Medicine after she graduated from Amherst College. She received her specialty training in primary care sports medicine at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Joy is board-certified in Family Medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. She has served as a team physician at the high school, collegiate Division I and III, and professional level.

    Gloria Rho, MD

    Sports Medicine

     

    Gloria Rho, MD, earned her medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine. She did her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago/Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She completed a fellowship in sports medicine at UC Davis Medical Center and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. She is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine.

  • Doctor Zemanovic

    Jason R. Zemanovic, MD

    Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine

     

    Jason R. Zemanovic, MD, graduated college and medical school from University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Zemanovic completed a fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. During his fellowship, Dr. Zemanovic helped provide medical care for athletes with Troy University, the Washington Redskins, and the Birmingham Barons. He is board-certified in Orthopedic Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine. Dr. Zemanovic is a team physician for the Sacramento Kings.

  • Doctor Reed

    Marty Reed, MD

    Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine

     

    Marty Reed, MD, graduated college from University of California, Davis, and medical school from University of Southern California. After residency, Dr. Reed completed a fellowship at Santa Monica Orthopedic Group and has been responsible for the care of athletes on the Galaxy, Chivas USA, and Men’s and Women’s US soccer teams, the Amgen Tour of California, and at Pepperdine University and various high schools. He is board-certified in Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Reed is a team physician for the Sacramento Kings.

    Scott Meier, MD

    Associate Physician, Sports Medicine

     

    Scott Meier, MD, graduated college at University of California, Davis. He earned his medical degree from Tulane University, completed his residency at University of California, Los Angeles, and completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles. He has served as a team physician for a variety of high school, college, and professional sports teams, including the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team. He is board-certified in Pediatrics and Sports Medicine.

  • Doctor Levine

    Dawn Levine, PhD

     

    Dawn Levine, PhD, graduated college from the University of California, Los Angeles, and completed her PhD in clinical psychology at Washington State University. She interned at the Long Beach Veterans Association and completed her post-doctoral residency in neuropsychology at UCLA. She specializes in the assessment and treatment of concussion patients. Dr. Levine is a member of the International Neuropsychological Society and the Sports Neuropsychology Society.

Since 2011, our Elk Grove Sports Medicine Center has offered members personalized evaluation, treatment, and prevention of sports- and exercise-related injuries in a modern, 4,000-square-foot facility featuring a rehabilitation gym with cardiovascular, strength training, and physical therapy equipment, and a 40-meter outdoor track strip for evaluation and rehabilitation.
