Pickled Onions Recipe
Serves: 4– 6
Prep Time: 5 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- 1 medium onion (purple, white, yellow)
½ cup vinegar (white or apple cider)
½ cup water
1 ½ Tablespoons sugar (brown or white)
1 ½ teaspoons salt
Optional: coriander seeds or black
peppercorns
DIRECTIONS
- Slice onion vertically to create long thin strips.
- Place onion in glass jar (about 2 cup jar) with tight fitting lid
- Combine vinegar, water, sugar, salt and optional
ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil on the stove. Stir well and cook until sugar and salt are dissolved. Turn off heat. - Pour hot liquid over the onions in the glass jar and make sure all the onion slices are submerged.
- Close the lid and let sit at room temperature until cools. Ready to use after at least 30 minutes. Refrigerate (saves for 1-2 weeks).
