Learn about Medicaid with Kaiser Permanente in Maryland
Medicaid provides free or low cost health care to low-income individuals and their families. On January 1, 2014, Maryland expanded Medicaid to a larger and more diverse group of people, including adults and children below certain income levels. HealthChoice is the name of Maryland’s statewide managed care program for Medicaid.
Kaiser Permanente participates in HealthChoice in several counties. This means that, if you are a current Kaiser Permanente member and your situation changes, you may be able to keep your same doctor and continue your care with Kaiser Permanente if you qualify for Medicaid.
HealthChoice provides a core set of health care benefits, including doctor visits, hospital care, immunization, and pregnancy-related services. The Affordable Care Act ensures all Medicaid health plans offer what is known as Essential Health Benefits (EHB). These comprehensive services include the following categories:
Hospital inpatient care
and Newborn care
& Habilitative Services
and wellness services
