There are affordable options if you need health care for you
and your family. If you qualify, Medi-Cal* may be an option.
Medi-Cal is health care coverage for people with low or no income.
Medi-Cal covers health services like:
Doctor office visits
Well child checkups
Immunizations (shots)
Medications
Vision Care
Hospitalization and Emergency Room Care
Other necessary medical care
Once you have been enrolled in Medi-Cal Managed Care, you may qualify
to make Kaiser Permanente your health care choice.
Apply for Medi-Cal
To qualify, applicants must meet the income and residency requirements.

Complete an application. You can go to www.coveredca.com for an application, or contact your county Health and Human Services.

Check the status of your application by contacting the county where you applied.

Once you are approved by the county, select your health care plan and/or provider through the State.
Helpful Information:
- It could take up to 60 days to find out if you are eligible for Medi-Cal Managed Care. While your eligibility is being determined you will receive a Benefits Identification Card (BIC) that will give you access to health care through Medi-Cal Fee for Service.
- You will receive a packet from the State about 45 days after your application is approved. You will be required to make a choice about your health care plan and/or provider.
Qualify for Kaiser Permanente
You may be able to become a Medi-Cal Managed Care member with Kaiser Permanente. You must qualify for Medi-Cal and live in a county where Kaiser Permanente has a contract to provide Medi-Cal Managed Care services. You must meet one of the following two requirements:
1. Have been a Kaiser Permanente member in the last six (6) or twelve (12) months, depending on where you live.
OR
2. Be a qualified, immediate family member living in the same home as a current Kaiser Permanente member.

You may call your county Health and Human Services to request an application for Medi-Cal or check on the status of your application.
Kaiser Permanente* may not have a contract to provide services in each county.
