The mission of the Volunteer Services Department is to provide quality support services to our members, visitors, and staff in the Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles service area and to our local communities.
Our volunteers include men and women 15 ½ years of age and older, and represent the culturally diverse community which forms our customer service area. Many volunteers are Kaiser Permanente members, and all share a strong desire to help and a willingness to serve where they are most needed.
Volunteers are selected, place and trained based on their skills, abilities, and service orientation without regard for race, religion, national origin, color, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation preference or medical condition. Our volunteer opportunities change rapidly, therefore placement to a department is usually determined after the on-boarding process.
Minimum requirements to participate in Volunteer Program:
- Applicant must be at least 15 1/2 years of age
- A commitment to the same 4-hour shift each week
- A commitment to volunteer for at least 100 hours over approximately one year’s time

Summer Youth Employment Program
Our Kaiser Permanente L.A.U.N.C.H.* High School Summer Youth Employment Program has been part of Kaiser Permanente’s Community Service efforts since 1968. Since its inception, over 25,000+ students have benefited from the training and education programs that have been offered.
This year, we are pleased to offer you our new, six-week Virtual Summer Youth Educational Program for West Los Angeles-area high school students. The program’s goal is to develop your professional and community leadership skills and introduce you to the many careers in health care.
The total program commitment is approximately 10 hours per week and consists of a combination of classroom sessions, study group meetings, and 2 hours per week of a web-based, self-study program from one of our partner organizations.
Upon successful completion of our program, you will receive a stipend. The stipend is dependent on completing the program successfully and calculated by taking your attendance and your classroom/study group participation into account.
We are convinced that this program will aid in providing you with the training and guidance that is essential to becoming employable in today’s competitive job market.
