Drug Take Back Day – Oct 27, 10am-2pm

Date: October 27, 2018

Time: 10am to 2pm

What is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day?

An event sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) that allows community members to safely drop off unused or expired prescription drugs at locations across the U.S.

When is the 2018 National Prescription Drug Take Back Day?

Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where can I find drop-off sites?

There will be a drop-off site at:

  • Kaiser Permanente San Marcos Medical Offices at 400 Craven Road, San Marcos.
  • Kaiser Permanente Otay Mesa Medical Offices at 4650 Palm Avenue, San Diego.
  • To find a complete list of drop-off sites in your area, please visit www.DEA.gov

Will I be asked questions when I drop off prescriptions?

No; this event is completely anonymous. Anyone can drop off unused or expired prescription drugs, no questions asked!

Why do I need to drop off my unused or expired medications?

  • Unused or expired medications are a public safety issue, leading to accidental poisoning, overdose, and abuse
  • Unused drugs thrown away in the trash can be retrieved and abused
  • Unused drugs that are flushed can contaminate the water supply. Proper disposal of unwanted medication saves lives and protects the environment

Can I drop off sharps (syringes, needles, lancets, etc.) at this event?

No. Sharps will not be accepted at this event

How can I dispose of my unused prescription drugs?

Drug Take Back programs are the best way to dispose of unused or expired drugs. If such a program is not available:

  • Take the medications out of their bottles and mix them with something unappealing, such as coffee grounds. Seal the mixture in a bag or disposable container, and throw away
  • Alternatively, you can take the unwanted medications to certain local Sheriff’s stations. To find a Sheriff’s station with a prescription drug drop-off box, go to: http://www.sdsheriff.net/prescription-drugs/dropbox.html
