My Background
I was born and raised in Taiwan. My family and I moved to Los Angeles when I was 12.
Education & Experience
I went to the University of California, Berkeley, for my undergraduate study, focusing on biology and education. It was during my sophomore year when I first learned about genetic counseling, and I was immediately drawn to it. Not only is genetic counseling the perfect blend of science and humanity, it also has a great emphasis on education and empathy—the two areas that I was most passionate about. I was very fortunate to be part of the second graduating class of the California State University, Stanislaus Master of Science program in genetic counseling, where I was further exposed to the intricacies of human genetics, the great mysteries of the human psyche and the ever expanding and irreplaceable role of a genetic counselor.
After graduation and board certification, I worked at a private practice as a general genetic counselor, and then as a pediatric genetic counselor at the Children’s Hospital, Los Angeles. When I came across the opportunity to work at Kaiser Permanente in the San Fernando Valley—where I did my first summer genetic counseling internship—I did not hesitate to apply. I remember so fondly of my first experience at Kaiser Permanente, and knew that this is the place where I can see most personal and professional growth, and where I can be utilized most effectively and responsibly as a genetic counselor to deliver excellent patient-centered care! I am affiliated with the National Society of Genetic Counselors and certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
About My Practice
I primarily see prenatal patients and patients who may be at increased risk for hereditary cancer. I also continue to practice in pediatric genetics. Thanks to my parents, I am still fluent in Mandarin, and I enjoy connecting with Chinese-speaking patients who are looking for that personalized touch in their care. In fact, what I enjoy most about being a genetic counselor is to connect with and learn from my patients and their families, to help them navigate the ever-evolving understanding of human genetics and to help them make sense of the information that comes with each genetic assessment and result. I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve our diverse patient population alongside a team of dedicated and eminent providers, who are all striving for the same goal—to see our members thrive!
How I Thrive
When I am not at work, I am either at home making soup, or checking out different restaurants with my husband. I am also always on the hunt for a good cup of coffee!
