My Background
I was born in Rochester, Minnesota and grew up in a suburb of Minneapolis. I realized at a young age that I wanted to do something with genetics. In seventh grade, I had a section in genetics and loved it. In high school, I learned about genetic counseling as a career.
Education & Experience
I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for my undergraduate and double majored in genetics and history in 2002. While attending Madison, I was able to volunteer with the genetic counseling program and worked on the Wisconsin Stillbirth Project. The experience reinforced my desire to become a genetic counselor. In 2004, I graduated from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver with my Master’s degree in genetic counseling.
About My Practice
I moved to Riverside in June 2004 to work at Kaiser Permanente, Fontana while my husband attended University of California-Riverside. While working at Kaiser Permanente, I started out primarily in pediatric genetics, but also saw patients in cancer genetics, adult genetics and prenatal genetics. I eventually transferred to Kaiser Permanente Riverside to be closer to home. When my husband finished his PhD, we decided to stay in Riverside because I enjoyed working as a genetic counselor at Kaiser Permanente. I feel Kaiser Permanente’s philosophy on preventative care and integrated healthcare approach is the ideal way to provide the best care for patients.
How I Thrive
I enjoy spending time with my husband, our two children, and our great dane. I enjoy knitting, traveling and reading a good book.
