Visitor Policy and COVID-19 Information
Virtual visits are strongly encouraged. If an in-person visit is appropriate, please consider the visitor limitations that are in place at Kaiser South San Francisco to minimize risk to our employees, physicians, and the patients that we serve.
We have updated the visitation guidance for hospital and ambulatory settings based on the most recent public health data for COVID-19 in our community.
Everyone entering our facilities must continue to wear a well-fitting mask, that covers their nose, mouth, and chin. You may receive a recommendation to wear a KP-supplied mask upon entry to facility to improve safety. Please adhere to all self-symptom screening required for entry to our facilities. Physical distancing must be maintained inside our buildings.
Visitor Restrictions
Emergency Department, Outpatient Imaging, Outpatient Lab – no visitors or companions are allowed
Perioperative services – no visitors are allowed unless approved by a clinician on the care team
Surgery, Telemetry, Critical Care (including Pediatric and special needs patients)
- Photo identification required for visitors
- All visitors must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination (complete primary series and booster dose)
- If not fully vaccinated or unvaccinated, proof of a negative COVID-19 test within the last 48 hours is required or agree to a COVID rapid test before visiting. Rapid test results are only valid for 24
- Where allowed, only 1 visitor in the patient room at a
- Physical distancing, visitors must stay 6 feet apart from other visitors as well as stay 6 feet apart from the patient.
- Length of visiting time may vary depending upon the needs of the patient. Visitation is limited to 1 hour per person, once a day.
- COVID-19 or symptomatic patients – virtual visits only, unless the patient is near end of life, or for other medical necessity, as determined by the House Supervisor
- No visitors confirmed with COVID-19 (current and in the last month) may
- Visitor may be asked to wear KP-provided mask to improve safety while in the patient’s Visitors will use the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Safety precautions for all facilities
- Stay home if you are sick.
- Consider asking if a virtual visit is possible.
- Visitors should limit movement in the facility.
- Visitors are not allowed to eat or drink in patient rooms.
- Masks still required at all times, including in patient rooms, even if you are vaccinated.
- Maintain all safety precautions: masking, social distancing, and hand washing.
- Follow instructions from staff.
