Clinical Health Educators

Our Clinical Health Educators (CHEs) are here to help you make healthy lifestyle choices. They work closely with your physician to support you in reaching your health goals. They provide individual guidance for concerns such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, weight management, nicotine addiction, stress management and more.

  • There is no co-pay to see a Clinical Health Educator. This is a covered benefit for our members. No referral needed.
  • Call the Health Education Department at 707-393-4167 for an appointment.
  • CHEs are available to meet with you by phone or in person at our Santa Rosa Medical Center, Santa Rosa Mercury Way Medical Offices and Rohnert Park Medical Offices.

  1. How much training do Clinical Health Educators have?
    Our Clinical Health Educators have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Public Health, Clinical/Health Psychology, Health Science, Counseling, Social Work, or a health related field that is applicable to the clinical environment. Additional content expertise or certification is often required.
  2. Is there a co- pay?
    No, there is no co-pay to see a Clinical Health Educator. It is a covered benefit for our members.
  3. Do I need a referral?
    No, you do not need a referral. If you would like to make an appointment with a Clinical Health Educator, please call us at 707-393-4167. Of course you may also ask your personal physician for a referral but it is not required. We offer both in-person and telephone appointments.
  4. Can I schedule online?

  5. Can I email a CHE?
    Yes, once you have had your first in-person visit with a Clinical Health Educator, you will be able to send a secure and confidential e-mail. We are usually able to respond to your messages within 2 business days if not away from the office. It’s best to contact our Appointment and Advice line 707-393-4044 with any urgent concerns.
  6. What is the difference between a Clinical Health Educator and a Registered Dietitian?
    Our Clinical Health Educators help patients uncover their abilities to change a behavior, such as eating habits, exercise, or stress management to help improve their health.
    Our Registered Dietitians help patients with medical nutrition therapy defined as nutritional diagnostic, therapeutic and counseling services for the purpose of managing disease. Their work is focused on specific dietary needs and individualized meal plans, especially related to chronic conditions.
