Guidelines: Night of the Polysomnogram

Please follow these general guidelines on the night of your polysomnogram unless otherwise directed:

  • Depending on the type of study being performed, it will take approximately 60 minutes for the sleep technician to apply electrodes and various sensors.
  • Patients are encouraged to start their sleep study after sensor applications, between 9 to 9:30 p.m.
  • Once the study begins distractions, such as television, radio, cell phone, and tablet or laptop will need to remain off through the rest of the night.
  • You will be awakened between 5:00 and 5:30 a.m. Once the sensors are removed, you are free to leave and wash up.
  • All patients must exit the lab by 6:30 a.m.
