Sleep Clinic Home Evaluation

Your Primary Care Physician has referred you for a sleep evaluation. This test requires the use of a home testing device, WatchPAT, which you will use for one night.

We know patients are concerned about the spread of Coronavirus. Please be assured Kaiser Permanente is doing everything possible to protect your health and the health of our community.

To reduce the risk of possible exposure and spread of illness, equipment pickup/drop-off services have been implemented. This will minimize time spent in the medical center.

Likewise, secure message, telephone and video virtual visits are available. Virtual care provides a convenient and safe way for you to receive care. If a Sleep Clinic Physician thinks you need an in-office appointment, one will be scheduled for you.

Please note: The WatchPAT testing device and all related accessories must be returned to the sleep clinic, Bayview South Building, no later than 10:00 a.m. on the next business day from the day you received the device.

What happens next?

Once the WatchPAT device is returned, your data will be downloaded and reviewed by one of our Sleep Clinic Physicians.

  • If your test results are NORMAL (less than 5 breathing interruptions per hour) the results will be forwarded to your referring provider who will follow up with you.
  • If your test results reveal MILD Sleep Apnea (5-14 breathing interruptions per hour) you will receive either an email through KP.ORG or a letter in the mail.
  • For MODERATE to SEVERE Sleep Apnea (greater than 14 breathing interruptions per hour) you will be contacted by one of our Sleep Clinic Physicians to discuss treatment options.
