About our history

In 1946, the Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center was founded in Washington, D.C. as the Kabat-Kaiser Institute and moved to Vallejo two years later. For more than 60 years, the Center has treated people with disabling conditions such as strokes and brain or spinal cord injuries. The Center is a licensed rehabilitation hospital within the Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center.

More than 100,000 patients and their families and caregivers have benefited from the Center’s care. Our departments include:

  • Adaptive Sports
  • Case Management
  • Medical Services (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and other Medical and Surgical Consulting Departments)
  • Neuropsychology
  • Nutritional Services
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physical Therapy
  • Recreation Therapy
  • Rehabilitation Nursing
  • Social Service
  • Speech Therapy

In addition to providing undergraduate training for physical and occupational therapists, the Center is also a training center for Specialty Training for Physical Therapists.
