When people hear the words “domestic violence,” they often assume it means hitting, kicking, or choking.
“Domestic violence includes these behaviors and many others,” says Carol Azar, Health Education manager at our Oakland Medical Center. “Feeling controlled, threatened, blamed, intimidated, criticized, or put down by someone you love are all aspects of domestic violence.”
If you recognize any of these warning signs in your relationship, Kaiser Permanente is a safe place to discuss it. Our physicians, nurses, social workers, and other staff members are prepared to talk with you, help you, and connect you to community resources.
