Nuclear Medicine

Welcome to Nuclear Medicine!

Our Department of Nuclear Medicine is a leading provider of nuclear medicine services in the Northern California region. We serve the Kaiser Permanente members in the East Bay as well as patients referred to us from other Kaiser Permanente facilities throughout the Bay Area. Together, with the Kaiser Permanente organization, our mission is to provide high-quality health care services and improve the health of our members and the communities we serve. This mission includes communicating efficiently with referring health practitioners and our members. Our staff physicians are board-eligible or board-certified in Nuclear Medicine.

What is Nuclear Medicine?

Nuclear Medicine often plays an integral part of patient care. Our specialists use safe and simple techniques to image the body to diagnose and treat disease by using small amounts of radioactive material. The amount of radiation received in a typical nuclear medicine imaging procedure is comparable to that from regular X-ray tests. Nuclear Medicine imaging is unique because it provides information about both structure and function. Our procedures often identify problems before they are detected by other types of tests. For patients receiving treatment, the radioactive material concentrates in the organ being treated.
