Childhood Steps

Kaiser Permanente is committed to providing affordable, accessible, and high quality breastfeeding support to families. First Steps is a new outpatient lactation program, that includes clinical health educators, who are trained in lactation support. Lactation educators work alongside lactation nurses, to discuss the benefits and basic techniques of breastfeeding with East Bay pediatric patients.

• Birth to 1+ year
• Office, phone, video visits, and small group appointments available

Parenting Steps is a temperament program. Parents and caregivers can work with a Clinical Health Educator to learn strategies that work best for each child. Understanding your child’s inborn temperament, can better prepare you to handle sleep, eating, getting along with others, and more. Parents can also visit preventiveoz.org to complete a temperament questionnaire and see a personalized profile of your child’s inborn traits.

Healthy Steps offers support for families who want to make lifestyle changes to support health and manage health conditions. Ask your child’s pediatrician for a referral. Options include:

• 1:1 Consultation with a Clinical Health Educator – Learn how to make healthy behavior changes for you and your family: eat healthy, cut sugary drinks, increase physical activity, create healthy lifestyle habits, and manage your relationship with food. Receive personalized support to help you reach your family’s goals.
• Healthy Lifestyle for Families Online Class – Overview class for families who want to make healthy lifestyle changes. Class discusses lifestyle changes to support health, how to make healthy changes, and offers available options to support families with these changes.
