Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Department of Acupuncture currently offers treatments to patients with a diagnosis of Chronic Pain or for relief of Nausea/vomiting associated with chemotherapy.

Acupuncturists believe that illness occurs when something blocks or unbalances your Qi. Acupuncture is a way to unblock or influence Qi and help it flow back into balance.

Acupuncture is done by inserting very thin sterile acupuncture needles into the skin/muscle at certain points on your body. This is done to influence the energy flow.

Acupuncture is one procedure offered for patients experiencing chronic pain. Long-term chronic pain may be resistant to many traditional medical treatments and can be physically and mentally debilitating. If you are referred to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Acupuncture is one procedure you and your provider here may consider. It is important to know that this is only one care modality for chronic pain and is a part of a more thorough treatment plan. It is not intended to be the sole care modality.

Here at AMRS, we follow the World Health Organization definition of alcoholism and drug dependency as “a brain disorder with social and psychological components.” Our abstinence-based program is organized around the central goal of helping our members lead lives free of mood-altering chemicals. In our harm-reduction and educational programs, we support our members who may not be looking for complete abstinence from all substances, but who are hoping to take steps towards healthy changes to support their overall quality of life.

We offer advanced heart failure consultation and management, cardiac transplant evaluation, post-transplant management, left ventricular assist device evaluation and access to a variety of clinical research trials. Following intensive consultation, education and evaluation, the majority of heart failure patients referred to our program, ‘graduate’ back to the care of their local general cardiologist and primary care provider once their symptoms are optimally controlled. We provide ongoing continuity care for patients on the heart transplant waiting list and cardiac transplant recipients.

We treat your heart problem as well as help you and your family understand and cope with your condition in the best way possible for you. That is why we have an excellent multidisciplinary team composed of physicians, nurses, clerical staff, and allied health professionals to help take care of you. It is this unique team approach that allows us to provide you with high quality care for you and your heart.

The department of Allergy assists patients suffering from asthma, hay fever, eczema, bee sting, and food allergies, hives, and other types of allergic conditions. We see both children and adults in the department of Allergy.

We are dedicated to providing our members with the most effective evaluation and therapy of their allergic conditions, including asthma. Allergy physician appointments are on a referral basis. We provide allergy appointments, allergy skin testing for pollens, environmentals and stinging insects, specific drug challenges (lidocaine and MMR), pulmonary function tests and allergy immunotherapy (allergy shots).

We are a group of anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), and anesthesia technicians who are dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive care during surgery and other medical procedures.

The first interaction with us in your surgical care journey will be at the Perioperative Medicine (POM) clinic. During your visit, a physician or nurse practitioner will review your history and medications with you and ensure your readiness for surgery.

On the day of surgery, you will meet your anesthesia provider. Based on the type of surgery and your medical history, they will determine the best anesthesia plan that will minimize pain and optimize your recovery.

If you’re having trouble hearing, you’re not alone. Millions of Americans of all ages have hearing loss. As a Kaiser Permanente member, you can have your hearing checked by one of our licensed audiologists. Our licensed audiologists are also available to assist your physician in diagnosing balance problems and tinnitus management.

Audiology is a referral only department. To have your hearing tested please contact your primary doctor to obtain a referral. Your primary doctor will have someone available to check your ears for wax. It is essential that your ears be free of wax at the time your hearing is tested.

Santa Clara Breast Care Center is part of the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer Accreditation Program. This accreditation reflects high quality, multidisciplinary care offered to breast cancer patients.

The Breast Care Center is dedicated to treating patients with breast problems. Such issues may include breast lumps, pain, infection, nipple discharge, abnormal mammograms and cancer. Our collaborative team is made up of Breast Surgeons, Gynecologists, Primary Care Physicians, Physician Assistants, and a Breast Care Coordinator who all have specialty breast care training. A patient visiting the Breast Center will receive a comprehensive evaluation to ensure early diagnosis and treatment. Our goal is to reduce anxiety and sleepless nights through education, support and early intervention. By the end of the appointment, each patient will have an understanding of their diagnosis, next steps and treatment plan. We work closely with specialists from the Departments of Radiology, Pathology, Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Genetics and Reconstructive Surgery.

Cardiac Catheterization (CCL) Lab is an invasive, diagnostic specialty procedure department which performs high quality diagnostic cineangiography and hemodynamic physiologic studies on the adult and geriatric patients. Cardiac Catheterization is used to view and treat potential artery blockages that could cause heart attacks or other serious cardiovascular damage. The Cath Lab also offers Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCIs) e.g. Angioplasty – a non-surgical procedure to open blocked heart arteries.

Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara has three Cardiac Catheterization labs serving members in the South Bay and Greater Southern Alameda Area. The lab features an all-digital cardiovascular imaging system. The system enables cardiologists to view hard-to-see blood vessels as well as the devices used during procedures, such as stents, guide wires and catheters.

Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art consultative, diagnostic, & interventional electrophysiology services for Kaiser Permanente members who are referred for management of cardiac arrhythmias.

We educate patients and physicians about cardiac arrhythmias including Slow Heart Rhythms, Supraventricular Tachyarrhythmias, Atrial Flutter & Tachycardia, Atrial Fibrillation, and Ventricular Tachyarrhythmias.

We specialize in the invasive evaluation and treatment of problematic or life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias. We provide advanced therapy for cardiac tachyarrhythmias including catheter ablation of some forms of ventricular tachycardia and most forms of supraventricular tachycardia including atrial flutter and fibrillation. In addition, we offer device therapy for life-threatening ventricular tachyarrhythmias & medically-refractory congestive heart failure.

CenteringPregnancy is prenatal care that includes a one on one health check-up with extra time and attention in a group setting. You’ll meet with your Centering provider and other women who are due near the same time for 9 sessions during your pregnancy.

CenteringPregnancy is a way for you to learn and share your experiences with other pregnant women while being involved in your own care.

We offer the following programs: Asthma/COPD, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Congestive Heart Failure, Diabetes/PHASE (Preventing Heart Attack Everyday), and Hypertension.

Each program has care managers or case managers and a program assistant. Your Primary Care Provider in Medicine will need to refer you to one or more of the CCM programs if you need closer management of your condition.

The staff in these programs received specialized training to specifically care for members with these conditions. They remain up to date with the latest clinical practice standards and assist to ensure the quality of care delivered in our medical center. All of them are extremely caring and dedicated to the members referred to their program.

We offer an array of services designed to manage your health care needs across the continuum from inpatient to outpatient. Coordination of care involves Home Health and Hospice, Skilled Nursing Facility, Durable Medical Equipment, Ambulance, Case Management, Bed Management and Contract Oversight. The goal of Continuing Care is to provide a seamless transition for you as you move across the continuum.

Our team includes physicians, nurse practitioners and patient care coordinators. We are a diverse group that reflects the population of our service area. We work together to care for our Kaiser Permanente members.

Patient care coordinators work with patients & their families to help patients make the transition from hospital to skilled nursing facility & from skilled nursing facility to home. Continuing Care physicians & nurse practitioners make regular visits to the skilled nursing facilities to provide medical care for our members who are admitted for rehabilitation after surgery or a medical illness. We also provide medical care for our long-term residents in these facilities.

Head and neck surgeons diagnose and treat disorders of the ears, nose, throat (ENT) and related structures of the head and neck. These medical disorders afflict members, young and old. They include chronic ear infection, balance disorders, sinusitis, snoring and sleep apnea, hearing loss, allergies and hay fever, swallowing disorders, nosebleeds, hoarseness, dizziness, and head and neck cancer. They specialize in treatment of facial bone fractures, tumors of the skull and neck, upper respiratory breathing and sinus disorders. Specialists also perform audiologic testing and hearing aid fitting.

The Health Education department offers a wide variety of health education services for patients in all stages of life. These services are evidence-based, clinically effective, and support lifestyle and health behavior change.

Home Health services for skilled intermittent care that is medically necessary and requires a physician’s order for care. The care includes registered nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, medical social worker and Home health aide services in the home. Patient must be home-bound which means it takes considerable and taxing effort to leave the home. This care is for a defined amount of time and includes participation with the patient, family and caregivers to provide care.

Hospice services are provided via contract to agencies outside the Kaiser Permanente system and are initiated by the patient’s personal physician or oncologist. Home health does not cover custodial private care for patients.

Hospice is a program designed to provide comfort and care for people who are terminally ill during their final stages of life and support for their caregivers. The goal of hospice is to provide physical, emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families and manages symptoms such as pain and nausea. The goal is not to cure, but to care-to help improve the quality of everyday life for patients and their loved ones. Hospice helps patients live as fully and comfortably as possible, while providing support for the entire family.

Hospice nurses are experts in pain and symptom management. In addition to the hands-on care they provide, they teach family members what they need to know about caring for a loved one at home. Other team members include a social worker, home health aide, volunteer, and chaplain. Hospice care also includes bereavement follow-up to support loved ones.

The Department of Hospital Medicine is a team of Physicians within the Department of Internal Medicine who specialize in taking care of hospitalized patients. If you are hospitalized, it is likely that you will be under the direct care of Hospital Medicine physician or be seen by one in consultation during your hospitalization or visit to the Emergency Department. If necessary during the course of your hospitalization, we work closely with your primary physician and sub-specialist physicians ( such as Cardiology, Nephrology and Oncology) to coordinate and direct your overall care. We also work as a team and you maybe seen by different members of our group at different times during your hospital course. Since we provide 24 hour coverage in the hospital, one member of our group may admit you to the hospital from the Emergency Department and then another member may take over your care in the morning. Aside from seeing different members of our group, you may also see resident physicians and medical students still in training. These bright and enthusiastic team members are always under the supervision of a staff Physician and are part of the larger team dedicated to your care.

The Infectious Disease Service at Santa Clara focuses on prevention of disease, hospital and outpatient infectious disease consultation, travel medicine services, and the care of HIV infection. Lifestyle Medicine is the use of evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic approaches, such as a whole food, plant-predominant dietary pattern, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances and positive social connection as a primary therapeutic modality for prevention, treatment and oftentimes, reversal of chronic disease. Our department includes both pediatric and adult programs and classes including the HEAL (Healthy Eating Active Living) program for kids/teens/families, Cook for Health Culinary Medicine Classes, Lifestyle Medicine Orientation for Adults, HEAL 2 Thrive Adult Intensive Lifestyle Medicine Program, Pivio Adult Intensive Lifestyle Medicine Program, and Exercise is Medicine Class.

Services includes: Mammography, bone-density testing, and ultrasound and interventional breast procedures.

Mammography is an X-ray test of the breasts (mammary glands) that is used to diagnose breast cancer. The resulting X-ray picture is called a mammogram. A mammogram is done to help screen for or diagnose breast cancer. Many small tumors can be seen on a mammogram before they can be felt by a woman or her doctor.

The Medical Social Work (MSW) Staff offer services free of charge to our members and their families who experience social, emotional, or financial problems related to illness, injury, hospitalization, or outpatient treatment. Professionally trained social workers provide short-term counseling for problems related to medical situations, grief or crisis counseling, hospital discharge planning, concerns regarding elder / spousal / child / dependent abuse and information and referral to resources for assistance with adoptions, Advance Directives, counseling, legal assistance, support groups, help at home, housing options, financial assistance, and transportation.

Social workers wear many hats. It is not unusual in a day to deal with death and dying, the cries of a caregiver torn between guilt and self-care, child and elder abuse, adoption issues, domestic violence issues and counseling a patient and family with a terminal illness. The role of a medical social worker is definitely varied and vital.

We provide culturally competent counseling and attempt to increase patients and families' dignity, independence and safety as much as possible.

Building a relationship with a Primary Care Physician is an important part of the member’s health care experience. The primary function of Member Outreach is to link all members to their own primary care provider and to welcome and integrate new and returning members to the Medical Center and Health Plan. Member Outreach Representatives answer questions regarding primary and specialty care providers; offer new member orientations; and assist new members in ways to navigate the facility.

The Memory Center is an interdisciplinary program designed to help provide Santa Clara Kaiser Permanente members with a comprehensive assessment of their memory problems and link them with needed resources.

Patients referred for a full dementia work-up are first invited to attend an initial group session. Normal age-related changes and causes of memory problems are discussed during the group visit and resources are shared with patients and caregivers.

A one-on-one diagnostic evaluation is scheduled following the group visit. The results of this evaluation are reviewed by the Memory Center interdisciplinary team, which includes a geriatrician. Then, a diagnosis and its implications are discussed with the patient and the caregivers.

Building 1

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides Family Centered Care to newborn infants that need Intensive care. Our patients include premature infants, infants needing surgery in the neonatal period, or any infant requiring close observation. The NICU staff is highly trained to work with infants and families. We strongly encourage parent participation as our main goal is to integrate a healthy baby into the family unit.

Visiting Hours
Our visiting policy encourages frequent visits by the parents. The NICU is open to parents any time, day or night. There may be short periods of time during the day when visitors are not allowed, such as during report time and doctor rounds (to maintain confidentiality of our patients). Visiting is limited to two people at a time per family. One of the visitors must be banded. Siblings of the patient are the only children under age fourteen that are allowed to visit. We specialize in the treatment of diseases of the kidney and high blood pressure (hypertension).

In our practice, the total patient is our primary concern, and we pride ourselves on providing personal and friendly care. We are dedicated to fully educating you about your health needs, and strive to be your partner in health.

The department of Neurology see adult and some teenage patients only by referral from other physicians or nurse practitioners. Although we see patients for a number of neurologic symptoms and problems, we emphasize neurologic follow-up for the following conditions: Multiple Sclerosis, Movement Disorders (such as Parkinson’s Disease), Seizure Disorders, and Neuromuscular Diseases (e.g., amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophy). We have close contact with primary care providers to assist in the diagnosis and management of common neurologic disorders, and emergency consultation if needed.

Welcome to the Newborn Care Center. We offer breastfeeding appointments, parenting information, and support. Our professional and supportive staff includes lactation consultants and perinatal educators with backgrounds in nursing and health education.

We offer a comprehensive service that includes diagnostic imaging, non-imaging tracer studies, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) in cancer diagnosis and staging, cardiac stress testing as part of our myocardial perfusion studies and diagnosis and treatment of thyroid disorders.

Registered Dietitian Nutritionists are food and nutrition experts who educate patients about nutrition and how it contributes to a healthy lifestyle, as well as administer medical nutrition therapy to help prevent and treat chronic disease.

The Registered Dietitian Nutritionists will review your:

• Diet—what you usually eat and drink compared to what your body needs to improve or maintain your medical conditions.
• Medical conditions (including past medical history, recent blood work, and medications) and the amount and type of food or supplements your body needs.

Our department provides the most current and comprehensive women’s health care for women of all ages. Our team includes specialists in infertility, oncology, high risk obstetrics, and urogynecology who work closely with your personal gynecologist. In addition, our labor and delivery hospital specialists strive to give you and your family a safe and family-oriented childbirth experience.

Medical treatment for work-related injuries and illness.

The Occupational Medicine Department at Kaiser Permanente – treats both Kaiser Permanente members and non-members for a wide variety of work-related injuries and illnesses. Employees seeking our care for a work-related injury, should check with their employer representative to verify that Kaiser Permanente is an approved industrial injury provider for your company. The important difference is your benefits under the Workers Compensation system that covers work-related injuries and your personal health insurance plan, which may or may not be Kaiser Permanente.

If your personal health insurance is with Kaiser Permanente, you should know that Kaiser Health Plan benefits do not cover work-related injuries. These industrial injuries are treated by a company’s designated health care provider, which may be Kaiser Permanente, but this needs to be verified before making an appointment. Of course, if you are experiencing an emergency, then you should seek treatment at the nearest hospital or Emergency Department.

We provide care for patients with cancer and blood disorders. We also support the Infusion Center which provides infusion therapy for Oncology and Hematology patients as well as for general medicine patients. Oncology – Hematology is a specialty consultation only clinic. To be seen in this clinic you must be referred by your primary care provider. Infusion appointments are pre-scheduled upon receipt of a provider order (consult).

The Department of Ophthalmology provides the full spectrum of eye care services. The department is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions (diseases) affecting infants, children and adults. Comprehensive general ophthalmologists are available by self referral or consultation. Ophthalmic sub specialists function as consultants to the general ophthalmologist for the management of complex vitreo-retinal, oculoplastic, neuro-ophthalmic and glaucoma patients.

The Optometry Department provides excellent care and service to our members who need eye examinations. Using state-of-the-art equipment our optometrists are extremely professional and technically skilled at diagnosing vision disorders and prescribing corrective eyewear or contact lens. One Stop Shopping is available to our members with a complete array of eyewear selections on hand in the adjourning Optical Sales Department.

Appointments are made by referral only. Orthopedics is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of injuries and diseases of your body’s musculoskeletal system. This complex system includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves and allows you to move, work and be active.

The Outpatient Procedure Center (OPPC) allows us to centralize outpatient procedures that require procedural sedation. This will help us shorten the wait times for minor surgical procedures and enable patients to go to one dedicated area for their outpatient surgery as well as pre- and post-operative care.

The Pain Management Rehabilitation Program (PMRP) is a program for the treatment of chronic pain. We use methods of pain management based on retraining the brain and nervous system through a whole-body approach.

The PMRP is a community team of physicians, nurses, physical therapists, pharmacists, program assistants, behavioral health clinicians, and health educators who work together to foster a safe and supportive environment where you will learn and practice new ways of moving and thinking that help retrain your brain and nervous system.

Palliative Care is a trans-disciplinary medical specialty made up of a team of doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains and sometimes pharmacists. This team works together with a patient’s primary care team to provide an extra layer of support for our patients and their families who are facing a serious illness.

At the Pediatric Diabetes clinic, we develop a personalized care plan for each child/teen with diabetes. Our team, which includes pediatric endocrinologists, pediatric nurse practitioners, diabetes educators, pediatric registered dietitians, pediatric registered nurses, pediatric social workers, child psychologists and a child life specialist, work together as a team to meet your child’s needs.

Our team will assist your child/teen and family to learn the skills necessary for managing diabetes at home and access support systems to help your child and your family adjust to living and coping with diabetes.

We are dedicated to providing our members with world class therapies for neurologic and neurosurgical disorders. Our team of neurosurgeons, neurologists, internists, radiologists and physiatrists strives to provide integrated care to our patients. This team approach is aided by the latest technologies both in the operating room and in the Imaging Services suite. We are able to provide care with the least invasive and safest techniques. In addition, we are proud to offer a dedicated team of nurses and therapists who specialize in the care of neurologic patients. They complete our comprehensive team.

The department of Pediatric Specialty is dedicated to providing timely and appropriate health care to patients who require our specialty services. We offer quality and personal pediatric care for all children from infancy through age eighteen. We are a group of experienced and highly trained Pediatricians and Nurse Practitioner.

The Perioperative Medicine (POM) Clinic department is responsible for the evaluation and preparation of all patients scheduled for surgery at the Santa Clara Surgery Center.

Once your surgery date has been scheduled, a member of your Care Team from the Perioperative Medicine (POM) Clinic will call you to schedule your appointment with the POM Clinic. Depending on the complexity of your procedure and your medical conditions, you may be scheduled for a formal office visit or an evaluation by telephone. Your surgeon and the Perioperative Medicine (POM) Clinic will help decide which is best for you.

The Anticoagulation Service is also known as Warfarin or Coumadin Clinic. It is a telephone only service.

The Anticoagulation Service is dedicated to help your physician manage your anticoagulation therapy and provide you with comprehensive information regarding anticoagulation medications, mainly warfarin. You will also be invited to attend warfarin class upon enrollment.

Medication Safety: Many factors can affect the activities of anticoagulation medications. Please call us at 408-366-4323 to inform us of any changes in your medications, diet, or your health condition since these changes may alter your anticoagulation blood test results. It is for your safety that we ask you to call us when you have the above changes.

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Kaiser Permanente in Santa Clara takes referrals from other departments within the Kaiser Permanente system to assist in the management of impairments, disabilities and handicaps, including chronic pain.

Many provider types work within our department to personally tailor a functional restoration approach that may include conventional medicine, complementary and alternative movement therapies, support & educational groups, interventional procedures and/or acupuncture. We ask for active participation by the patient in developing and implementing a life care plan that can optimally bring more life to their years!

Welcome to the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Santa Clara Medical Center. We provide the full spectrum of plastic surgery services including breast surgery, hand surgery, reconstructive surgery of the face, extremities, and trunk as well as subspecialty care in the fields of craniofacial surgery and microsurgery. All of our surgeons and Physician Assistants are qualified in their fields and have training and experience to care for a wide variety of plastic surgery problems. We are the largest Plastic Surgery specialty department in the northern California Kaiser system, and we frequently receive referrals from throughout the region. Our providers also perform a variety of cosmetic surgery procedures on a fee-for-service basis at our Cosmetic Center in San Jose.

Podiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of injuries and diseases of your body’s foot and ankle. This complex system includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, nerves soft tissue and skin working in unison to provide support for walking, running and jumping.

Our department offers many best-practice, evidence-based treatments to help you feel better if you are troubled by psychological symptoms. These treatments range from educational and therapy groups, to brief individual therapy, to medication management under the supervision of a psychiatrist. A referral may be made by the member’s personal provider but a referral is not required.

There are many things which have been scientifically proven to promote improved mental health that do not include medications or therapy. These approaches involved taking better care of yourself by getting enough good quality sleep, exercising in a way that is appropriate for your physical condition (you may want to consult your primary care physician before starting an exercise program), eating well and in a way that controls your weight, quitting smoking if you smoke, and avoiding excessive alcohol, caffeine, or harmful drugs.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Kaiser Permanente offers a variety of mental health services. We hope you will not hesitate to call us, for advice or to arrange for services, if your child appears to be troubled or suffering in some way.

Your child’s treatment plan, based on an assessment of his or her needs, may include health education, individual, family, or group interventions, and sometimes, medication, as appropriate. Pulmonary medicine is a subspecialty of internal medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the respiratory tract. A pulmonologist has expertise in the evaluation of patients with breathlessness, cough, wheezing, and chest tightness, as well as abnormalities of the chest x-ray, chest CT scan and other chest imaging studies.

The Radiation Oncology Department is located at the Santa Clara Medical Center – Homestead campus in the Cancer Treatment Center (CTC). The CTC can be reached by entering the Homestead Campus and crossing the bridge to the west side of the Calabazas Creek. Parking is available directly in front of the CTC.

The Radiation Oncology department specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Our skilled staff is made up of caring specialists and therapists who perform thousands of radiation treatments every year. Our Advanced Equipment and techniques further help ensure that you receive high-quality care and treatment.

The Department of Rehabilitation Services in Santa Clara provides comprehensive rehabilitation services for all Kaiser Permanente members.

Specialty services include Orthopedic Rehabilitation, CVA/Neurological Rehabilitation, Hand Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Infant/Pediatric Therapy.

Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy are provided by referral only.

Rheumatology is a subspecialty of Internal Medicine. We provide specialty care for patients with arthritis, certain autoimmune diseases, musculoskeletal pain disorders and osteoporosis. There are more than 100 types of these diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus, back pain, osteoporosis, and tendonitis. Some of these are very serious diseases that can be difficult to diagnose and treat. A rheumatologist is an internist or pediatrician who is qualified by additional training and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis and other diseases of the joints, muscles and bones. Your regular doctor will refer you to a rheumatologist when you have a rheumatologic problem.

Welcome to the Minimally Invasive Structural Heart Program, part of Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara’s highly distinguished cardiac services.

Our multidisciplinary team includes interventional cardiologists and cardiac surgeons who provide our members with a wide array of minimally invasive structural heart procedures for adults. Some of the most common procedures we perform are: Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) , Percutaneous Mitral Valve Repair, Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) closure, Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) closure, Para-valvular Leak Closure, transcatheter Valve in Valve replacement and Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion. We actively participate in numerous clinical trials to provide our members with unique access to novel minimally invasive therapies that can improve their quality of life.

The Surgery Department is a multi-specialty clinic, consisting of providers specialized in General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Thoracic Surgery and Pediatric Surgery. The department also incorporates the outpatient surgery room (OPS) and the Minor/Procto room, which are used for minor surgical procedures under the local anesthesia and/or procedural sedation.

General surgeons diagnose and treat various surgical diseases with the extensive implementation of minimally invasive endoscopic and laparoscopic techniques. Conditions treated include, but are not limited to surgical diseases of digestive tract, endocrine system, pulmonary system and various neoplasms. Our department is successful in the early diagnosis and treatment of malignant neoplasms, especially breast cancer, lung cancer, and rectal cancer.

The Thoracic Surgery department at Kaiser Permanente provides diagnostic and treatment services to patients with ailments or cancer of the chest organs. We offer innovative surgical treatments with minimally invasive techniques. Urogynecology is a subspecialty of Gynecology dealing with common problems of the pelvic floor. These problems include urinary incontinence (leakage of urine), pelvic organ prolapse (a bulge in the vagina, or “fallen” bladder or uterus), as well as bowel problems, and other issues related to the pelvic floor.

Urology is a surgical specialty which deals with diseases of the male and female urinary tract and the male reproductive organs, including the kidney, ureters, bladder, prostate, urethra, testis, penis and scrotum. Urology covers diagnosis and treatment for both adults and children.

The Vascular Surgery Department is the leading Kaiser Vascular Center for the South Bay. The department is highly oriented toward implementation of the most contemporary high-tech minimally invasive surgical procedures to treat various vascular diseases.

With increasing use of minimally invasive techniques, our experienced providers, supported by specially trained staff, diagnose and treat all types of arterial problems, including carotid disease, arterial disease of the lower extremities, and aortic aneurysms. We also have a special interest in the treatment of varicose veins, being pioneers in the use of minimally invasive techniques.

The Vascular Department is equipped with the latest diagnostic equipment, enabling early non-invasive diagnosis of various major and peripheral vessels diseases.

The wound care clinic was created out of the need for our patients to have a place where they can get the most comprehensive, accessible and knowledgeable care of essentially any type of wound that your physician feels is appropriate as out patient care.

The clinic was initially created as an extension of the Department of Surgery in 1997, but now has expanded its role and now gets referrals from all over the medical center and is run by a very qualified group of wound care nurses who are always supported by the staff surgeons. The clinic sees about 3500 new patients every year, and has a large variety of wound care supplies available to accurately take care of nearly any type of wound that is encountered.
